Picnik gets a fine replacement in PicMonkey
It was kind of a blow (as much of a blow as losing a convenient web could possibly be) when Google decided to shut down Picnik to force people onto Google+ for image editing. I’d gotten hooked on Picnik for grabbing, resizing and cropping web images, and it had become my go-to for screenshots. But it’s shutting down on April 19th.
Saved! Enter PicMonkey*, a perfect replacement for Picnik. In fact, the interface looks a little nicer: perfectly clean and intuitive.
Today, I got new via PicMonkey’s Twitter account that they had launched a Chrome extension. This was crucial for me: it’s that extension that finds the images on a page, lets you pick one and then send it to the app to edit and then save down to your computer. Photoshop who?
* what’s with all the people using chimp and monkey for the names of their services? I guess that it gives it an informal vibe, but it’s getting a little overdone.
